Matt and Phred’s opened just over eight years ago fulfilling the dreams of 2 local musicians. Today, after much hard work and a few dramas along the way, it has firmly established itself in the vanguard [cunning reference intended] of UK jazz venues. We are dedicated an committed to locating, supporting and promoting the best jazz talent in the northwest and beyond. At the same time we are believers in the importance of, when possible, introducing artists from further away with established national and global reputations. First and foremost, because it’s an honour to have them visit our home but then, we hope, because we think that they will inspire the aspiring [and established] talents from the area to dedicate and innovate in the pursuit of ‘jazz perfection’. Without inspiration [and support] jazz music cannot evolve and eventually, god forbid, it might well whither away!
As important as the music is, without out fantastic customers there wouldn’t be a club. Therefore, in the same way that we endeavour to support ‘the talent’ [as we like to call those that we so envy for their talent] we are also committed to providing the best possible entertainment available [anywhere]! We have established a superb reputation for our food [pizzas and much, much more, thank you Sam!] and are working hard at perfecting the beverage side of things as well.
During 2007 we will be embarking on a series of much needed improvements to the facilities [don’t worry ladies, you are definitely first!] and of course, we welcome your thoughts and suggestions on any possible improvements we could make.
Returning to the music side once more, this year will also see significant steps taken to energise & enhance the already fantastic line-ups for which we have become renowned. Whilst continuing to showcase the incredible local talents [please check out the myriad of links on this site] we will also be increasing our promotion of the national and global names that rarely visit these shores [let alone Manchester]. As such events are confirmed we will be publishing information here as well as in our newsletter [see below].
