Nine North West was set up by legendary Manchester trombonist Paul Lathem. Paul's vision for the band is The groundbreaking Miles Davis fifties album "THE BIRTH OF THE COOL" The band has the same instrumentation of the famous nonet:
Alto sax, Baritone sax, Tenor sax, Trumpet , Trombone , Tuba, Piano, Bass and drums.
The music being taken from the origional scores of;
"Birth of the Cool" - Miles Davis Nonet
"Blues and Roots" - Charles Mingus
"Ah Um" Charles Mingus
The set is completed with vocals by Paul and another Manchester legend, pianist John Ellis, singing the bands arrangements of classic Ray Charles and Nina Simone songs, along with original tunes written for the band.
The reaction to the band live is incredible. "Why have we never seen anything like this before, it's just great"
