Lol Goodman has fronted bands in varied guises and with various musicians for nearly twenty
years. For fifteen of those years James Horrocks has been an almost constant member
either on second lead or bass guitar. The addition five years ago of drummer, Jon Firth
meant that Lol could deliver the kind of sound and feel of the 1960s & 70s blues rock bands,
but they were still doing covers and playing very irregularly at charity functions etc. Then
about two and a half years ago, while Jon was involved in organising the annual Peter Cowap
Music Festival in Middleton, a band that was “a bit different” was required.

The Lol Goodman Band and a set of original blues/rock inspired material.
Since then the band have regularly worked the clubs, pubs and festivals of, mainly, the North
of England performing their brand of gritty blues.
Since release of their first CD “Old Dogs ‘n‘ Licks“, an album of 12 original Lol Goodman
tracks, the band’s profile has been raised on the blues scene through several plays on blues
radio programmes nationwide and great reviews in blues magazines.
2014 also brings some more interesting gigs. The Sunday prior to Matt & Phreds gig the
band support British Blues Awards double category winner Chantel McGregor at Saints
Room, Cockermouth and the following Friday play Blues at Old No. 7 in Barnsley

They are currently in the studio recording a follow up album, another 12 original tracks, this
time with two old friends added to the line up. Dave Turnbull travelled from his Glasgow
home to provide some rocking tenor sax and Rod Mayall, an old mate of Jon’s from the 1960s
laying down some keyboard. Rod has an older brother, John, who does a bit on the blues

The Lol Goodman Band’s live sets are a mainly original material with a few covers of classic
numbers done in the LGB style. Tracks from “Old Dogs ’n’ Licks” feature strongly as do
tracks from the new, so far untitled, album.
