NISHLA SMITH QUINTET
Nishla is an Australian jazz singer/songwriter, now based in Manchester. In January this year, she performed as part of MONA's Summer Jazz Festival in Australia, before returning to the UK to revive her self-devised show 'Cabaret: A Show About The End Of Love' with string quartet Manchester Collective for the PUSH festival. She is an artist for Sofar Sounds in Manchester and London, and has performed her originals live on BBC's Intune.
In March 2018, Nishla became one of the Manchester Jazz Festival's Hothouse talent development artists- she performed a debut original set at the festival in July.
This August she has been invited to Sage Gateshead for a summer residency, to continue work on a debut record. Tonight Nishla is joined by an amazing lineup of northern jazz musicians: Richard Jones (Beats and Pieces), Aaron Wood (Artephis), John Pope (Archipelago) and Johnny Hunter (Fragments/Johnny Hunter Quartet).
